About Overseers
And Being The Best Clanmate You Can Be
Overseers are the officers and community organizers of Velum Lux. They assist the Veilarch in everyday clan management and serve as mentors, confidants, leaders, and decision-makers for their clanmates. This is not an occupation, but instead an exalted position that can be astoundingly rewarding to participate in. Overseers are people who will enjoy the benefits that come with fair leadership and who will take seriously the attitude and tasks that you will be required to employ.

You might notice that the following traits can and should be embraced by every clan member, and that would be a great observation! Another way to define an Overseer is to say that they are ideal representatives of Velum Lux. That said, please keep these traits in mind, regardless of your position in the clan.

Each Overseer should...
​
Be Known: Introduce yourself to everyone in Velum Lux whenever possible and get to know your clanmates. You should be a mutual point of contact between members, ideally able to introduce anyone to anyone else.
Be Liked: Be a friend to all clan members, as best you can. Try to instill in yourself and your clanmates the desire to get along and to make new companions, rather than act like an exclusive club.
Be Safe: Establish a welcoming, forgiving, and understanding nature so that people feel comfortable going to you with problems, suggestions, complaints, or observations.
Be Respectful: Treat everyone, inside or outside the clan, kindly; assume everyone has worth and value. Give respect by default, don't make them earn it.
Be Knowledgeable: Be fluent with the clan's layout, conduits, and resources, stay informed with goings-on, and be ready to answer questions as they come to you. Know your role in the clan, and know the tools you have at your disposal.
Be Impartial: Fairness is important for a leader. You can of course be better friends with some people than others, but when it comes to decision-making for anything important, you need to make sure you're not playing favorites.
Be Active: Play the games, post on the various media, and reply to other members' posts. Create events, gather the community, and encourage more people to do the same.
Be Spirited: Let it be known that you are a member of Velum Lux. Inspire other members to rally under the banner of the Veil and show off their clan pride!
Be Decisive: If there are issues between people or with a game, be ready to offer your best solution and assert it, if needed. Of course, I don't mean that you should always impose your word over others', but just be prepared to make decisions and solve problems, should they arise.
Be Humble: Please remember that you are here to help guide the community towards productivity, fun, and benevolence. You will have decision-making power and will be a central figure in the community, but this does not mean that you are in control of anyone, or that you can abuse any given power for anything other than the greater good.
Be Enticing: Seek out potential members and play with them. Show them the warmth of the community and the kind of social network we offer. Attract good players who you think will be an asset to the clan.
Be Innovative: You are no longer just a follower of the community, you are invested in it, and you are a part of its leadership. As such, come up with ideas on how to improve the clan and help it grow.
Be Selfless: Calling out other people's achievements to make sure they feel noticed and appreciated, being willing to take a seat on the sidelines if the situation calls for it, taking time to help a clanmate if they need it... these are some sacrifices you must be willing to make for others. Please try to learn to take pride and have fun in making sure that your clanmates are well taken care of - it is one of the best rewards for undertaking leadership.
Finally, be Selfish: Don't forget: you too are a gamer, a clan member, and a friend. You need to have fun and be fair to yourself, as well. None of this matters if you're having a terrible time. Please remember to enjoy the community and reap benefits that you help maintain!
